Jorge Ortega
Born in 1972, the artist has held individual exhibitions in Las Palmas de Gran Canarias at Manuel Ojeda and Luroa art galleries from 1990 to the present. Notably, their works have been showcased at ARCO in Madrid, Cuenca, France, and Germany.
In addition, the artist has participated in collective exhibitions at the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) and the Colegio de Arquitectos (Professional School for Architects). Their projects, such as "El Doble Hermético" and "Convergencias- Divergencias," curated by Antonio Zayas, have garnered significant attention. The artist's works are also part of the APM collection.
The artist emphasizes their street and t-shirt projects, where images and drawings are blended with the urban context, empowering viewers to embrace these works as their own. As a painter, they navigate a realm of images, drawing inspiration from advertisements, personal experiences, and real-life observations. Regardless of their origins, these images are contextualized and subjected to representation, prompting a deeper examination of their inherent messages.
The artist consciously selects these images to highlight the duality of messages prevalent in contemporary society. Ideals of family, youth, and civic duty are embedded within images and evoke an immediate response. While the paintings may appear simplistic, they reveal a complex interplay of symbols, relationships, and contradictions. The artist's meticulous technique and precise application of paint create an appropriate viewing distance that facilitates the development of ideas that challenge their mind. Through paint and observation, they seek to unveil and explore these ideas.
