Elena Bajo's conceptual practice addresses social and political dimensions of everyday spaces, strategies for conceptualizing resistance, the poetics of ideologies, and the relationship between temporalities and subjectivities. Her work encompasses installation, sculpture, painting, performance, participatory events, film, text, and writing, both individually and collectively.
Exhibition spaces serve as studios or laboratories for Bajo, where she creates experimental and itinerant site-specific sculptures through improvised actions and choreographed movements. Using art production processes as a departure point, she works with existing spaces and limited materials to rearrange found elements into new compositions.
By juxtaposing identities of prefigured social and political spaces and dimensions, Bajo creates a cryptic but revealing new code of signifiers. Her work re-stages space and time, transforming past events into future ones through the incorporation of chance, contingency, and the ambiguity of the present moment.
